Moulsford Cricket Club Moulsford CC v Didcot on Sun 07 Aug 2011 at 2 pm
Moulsford Cricket Club Won
Match report
An obstinate grey drizzle eventually gave way before the scheduled 2 o’ clock start and a youthful Didcot side were sent in to bat by skipper Andy Moss.
Moulsford began in aggressive fashion with some excellent opening bowling from Simon Coleman (7-0-16-0) and Ben Goss (7-1-11-1) rewarded when the latter claimed the wicket of Strange, who had looked threatening. The opening pair would set the tone for the rest of the innings, as Didcot failed to impose themselves at the crease; Moulsford maintaining pressure throughout, not least through some much improved fielding.
The tricky spin bowling of A Moss (2-12) sent Matthews and Meardon back to the clubhouse. Thereafter, Stevens (3-34) and Hopkins (3-8) took over, restricting the visitors to a modest-looking 104-9 after 35 overs.
As the players took tea, the heavens opened again and for a time, the future of the match looked in jeopardy as a succession of low black clouds closed in. When the cloud eventually broke, Moulsford set to work with the bat.
Having lost Johnny Stevens for 10, it was left to James Coleman and Charlie Littledale to provide the impetus. Coleman looked in fine form, cracking 7 fours in his splendid innings of 42 before being
bowled by Meardon. With the score on 76-2, Moulsford were coasting
along as the rain returned with more intensity.
Then, drama.
The skiddy conditions saw the fall of a flurry of wickets. Within 20 minutes the complexion of the game changed entirely as S Coleman, Hopkins, Dodd and Gilmore fell in quick succession. Memories of Twyford in 2009 were recalled.
Ultimately, it took the cool head of Littledale (37) to steer the home side through and in the 24th over, he and Thomas Moss left the field to appreciative applause (tempered with some relief) from the home side – Moulsford eventually closing on 106-7.
So, a good win and thoughts move on to the home fixture with Bradenham on 21st August.
