On a grey and cold day Moulsford travelled the short distance to face Dorchester. A timed game was played rather than the limited 35 overs we are used to. The Dorchester openers were confident and put on 80 runs before Ben Ralphs broke the partnership by bowling their no.2 Sharman. A well earned wicket, Ben finished with 2 for 86 after bowling 17 overs. Andy Moss caught their no.1 after some great bowling from Jonny Stephens. The same bowling/catching partnership took the wicket of their no.3. An aggressive spell from Dorchester then ensued with them finishing at 1630 on 218 for 4.

On what was proving to be a great batting wicket, we started our reply strongly with Will Perry quickly moving on to his 50 with the score only on 65. Will went on to a confident 57. Jonny came in at 3 and was playing some confident shots whilst looking solid in defence. Ben moved on to 27 before being bowled by the pacey Dorchester opener (an Oxfordshire player) – another good looking knock though. Nick Page joined Jonny at the crease only to succumb to LBW, making 1. No. 5 Niall Douglas came in and played aggressively keeping the runs ticking over and Moulsford in with a real chance of winning. Jonny was dismissed for 11 before Ben Goss came in making a very valuable 25. The required run rate crept up and with 5 overs left, the game was getting out of reach so a more defensive approach was adopted after Phil Hopkins was caught for 1. Malcolm Singh and Niall Douglas saw out the last few overs leaving Niall on 52 not out and Malcolm on 3 not out leaving Moulsford on a very respectable 181 for 6.

A great result against a very strong and sometimes overly keen Dorchester side.

Highlights of the day.
• Ben Ralphs catching a ball launched firmly at his face off his own bowling and consistent quality bowling for 17 overs.
• A great bowling spell from Jonny resulting in 2 wickets
• An aggressive and rapid half century from Will
• A near match winning unbeaten half century from Niall
• A great all round team performance in sometimes difficult circumstances
