Lost by 18 runs.

The season started with lovely warm conditions against the background of the superb new pavilion.

Moulsford fielded first as there was some cloud around, and had Reading Lawyers all out for 132 from 32 overs. The main runs came from De Wet who scored a polished and aggressive 56. Moulsford’s bowlers all bowled steadily with the pick being Rohan Iswariah with 3 for 9 and Ben Goss with 2-24. A special mention goes to Freddie Iswariah on his debut who took a wicket in his second over and ended with 1 for 8. Two good catches were taken by the skipper Ben Ralphs, including a crucial ‘skier’ to dismiss De Wet. Also of note were two stumpings by wicket keeper Darren Jones, including one via a sharp return by Simon Coleman.

In reply Moulsford managed 114 – 9 in 35 overs, thanks to Ben Goss scoring 39 in probably his finest innings for Moulsford (against tough hostile bowling), and Rohan with a reliable 30. The only others to score for Moulsford were Adrian Allen -16, and Ben Ralphs -11.

At one point Ben and Rohan with a stand of 82 looked to be turning the match but the opposition had a very strong bowling attack who gave little away.

• The welcome sight of two young debutants to the team, namely Jacob Swain and also Freddie Iswariah.
• A towering six hit by Ben Goss
• The welcome sight of club legend Bryan Parkes back on the field – as umpire.
• Ben Ralphs on debut as captain
• Enjoyment of the new facilities
